Built by ‘Über’ master builder Scott Buehl at the Fender workshop in LA, the new bass is a progression from Charlie’s original iconic acrylic bass. A reworking of the see-through body finish will give the guitar a distinctive vintage vibe.
Modelled on the early 70’s P-bass, it features classic passive pickups, a maple neck and fretboard together with a unique sunburst acrylic finish to the body. The bass will also sport clear bridge and pickup covers and is designed to be light as well as very cool.
Speaking about the project Charlie said: “I wanted to keep the clear plastic body concept as I seem to be associated with that bass in people’s minds. I was inspired by the glassware of Czech artist Pavel Hlava and thought his use of colour would work really well as a semi-transparent sunburst finish on the new body.”
The bass should be ready in time for Charlie’s touring commitments and solo work in 2019. We can’t wait to see it!
